And to say the selection is lacking is an understatement. The external speakers situated on either side of the touchscreen were loud enough, but sounded small and plasticky--maybe okay for dialogue but not for music.
Unfortunately, this has the effect of making the screen look somewhat muted and dull. The speakers flanking the display are actually quite loud. The music player seemed to work well enough, displaying album art so long as you supply it and offering a number of preset sound profiles.
Homd device supports a fairly impressive array of media file types. We put the Kings of Leon's Only By the Night on an microSD card and heard "Sex on Fire" loud and clear across our apartment — or about 24 feet away from where the Archos 7 was propped up on our living room table.
Luckily, some apps just default to vertical orientation, like the preloaded Aldiko e-reading app, but there's no chance you'll be reading Engadget in vertical mode out of the box although, we expect the typical Archos hacks to happen as soon as this thing ships. The size of the display, however, means it is pretty easy to press what you want, so it doesn't suffer in the same way that smaller resistive devices can with mis-keying.

The photo viewer will let you make an instant slideshow from your folders of photos. At this price though, perhaps that's to be expected. So while reading the news or looking at maps, I had to use the onscreen buttons in the browser to zoom in and out.

Users familiar with Android phones will have no trouble finding their way around the Home Tablet. Horizontal viewing angles were very wide; three people sitting side by side could view the Home Tablet without noticing color distortion. Algorithms help robot dogs trot more like real animals.
